Breast implant infections.

چکیده
Infection after breast implant surgery occurs in 1.1% to 2.5% of procedures performed for augmentation and up to 35% of procedures performed for reconstruction after mastectomy. Most infections result from skin organisms and occur in the immediate postoperative period, although infections can occasionally present after many years. Diagnosis of breast implant infection relies on the clinical presentation of breast pain, swelling, erythema, and drainage in conjunction with ultrasound-guided cultures of periprosthetic fluid. Management commonly involves implant removal, with device salvage attempted in select situations.

Breast Implant Infections: Clinical Microbiology, Early Diagnosis, and Antibiotic Treatment.
In the United States, more than 95,000 breast reconstructions were performed in 2013. Of these, tissue expanderand/or implant-based surgical procedures accounted for nearly 79%. Meanwhile, plastic surgery in developing countries, particularly breast esthetic and reconstructive surgery, is drawing more attention. A literature review indicates that up to 2.9% of women receiving esthetic breast au...
متن کاملReducing infection risk in implant-based breast-reconstruction surgery: challenges and solutions
Implant-based procedures are the most commonly performed method for postmastectomy breast reconstruction. While donor-site morbidity is low, these procedures are associated with a higher risk of reconstructive loss. Many of these are related to infection of the implant, which can lead to prolonged antibiotic treatment, undesired additional surgical procedures, and unsatisfactory results. This r...
متن کاملOsteomyelitis of sternum and rib after breast prosthesis implantation: A rare or underestimated infection?
Sternum and rib osteomyelitis complicated from breast implant infection is rare. We report a case of early sternum and rib osteomyelitis occurred during breast implant infection managed in an inter-regional referral center for bone/joint infections in the south of France.
متن کاملCapsular Weakness around Breast Implant: A Non-Recognized Complication
Capsular contraction is a frequent complication following breast augmentation. On the other hand, capsular weakness, a not widely recognized complication, may occur around the implant. A weak capsule allows the migration of the prosthesis to the lateral region of the thoracic region or inferiorly, towards the abdomen, due to gravitational forces. The cause of capsular weakness remains unresolve...
متن کاملAbstract: Management of Breast Implant Associated Infections in Breast Reconstruction
INTRODUCTION: Tissue expander(TE) and implant infection is the most common cause of surgical readmission following breast reconstruction. The goals of this study are (1) to characterize a cohort of patients who were treated with IV antibiotics for suspected infection after prosthetic breast reconstruction, (2) to identify local microbiome and (3) elucidate an optimal antibiotic treatment protoc...
